The Jaguar XF fix

The Jaguar XF fix

It’s fair to say that Jaguar’s reliability history has been, well, a mixed bag. And while we praised our tested XF for being a sporty sedan with strong acceleration and notably nice interior fit and finish, our Jag hasn’t been without its problems.

Case in point: After only 12,000 miles and less than a year in service, the fuel door wouldn’t open and the power driver’s window malfunctioned – it goes up, then comes down an inch and stays there. Ultimately, the window requires a number of switch operations to close it fully.

We called the dealer who told us to bring it in and they’d fix it while we waited.

So I took the car in. While I was there, I found out that there were a couple of outstanding recalls on the XF and it was also due for a free scheduled maintenance. The dealer even offered a loaner (hmmm, can you say “420 hp XKR?”) and said that everything should be ready the next day. Unfortunately, I was handed the keys to an old Isuzu Ascender--twin to the Chevrolet TrailBlazer. When’s the last time you saw an Ascender? Our last tested TrailBlazer had very un-Jaguar-like handling, braking, fuel economy, noise levels, and atrocious fit and finish. Sigh.

But I needed to get to work, so I took the keys and was off.

The next day the dealer called and said the car needed a new window regulator. Unfortunately, these were on back-order. So I waited a week for the part to come in; I was again told that the car should be ready the next day.

The next day the dealer called and told me that the parts that arrived to fix the XF were marked incorrectly and what we really needed was still on back-order. It may be another 1-2 weeks more before they get it.

Thankfully, I have lots of other cars to drive--the Ascender is not exactly a sweet ride--but I imagine that regular Jaguar owners wouldn’t be amused at commuting in this outdated SUV for several weeks while making payments on their cat. At least the Isuzu’s windows go up and stay up.

Meanwhile, we wait and wait until the right part comes in for our Jaguar FiX…stay tuned.

New Jaguar XFR

Finally The New XFR Is Revealed

Here it is ladies and gentlemen, the moment we've all been waiting for - the new Jaguar XFR has finally been shown to the public for the first time at the Detroit motorshow, and its simply gorgeous!

Pictures hardly do the car justice, so lets get on to the details, sexy exterior first: What you can see are the trademark R bonnet vents from the Jaguar XKR along with a much deeper front bumper with huge chromed air intakes to help the engine breathe, and a deeper protruding front splitter-like lip to give front downforce. Sculpted deep side sills help the look, as does a discreet boot spoiler and trademark R quad exhausts poking out from under the new rear bumper. And to top it off there's a great looking set of turbine style 20" alloys in the style of turbine rotors.

So its a head turner, but how fast does it go? More good news looking at the performance statistics - Jaguar is clearly back into the power war with the German big boys: an all new 510 bhp 5.0 litre V8 motor, (known as the AJ V8 Gen III) with 625Nm of torque available from very low revs means the XFR will have the M5 beat in most driving conditions, due to not just more power but more accessible power 0-60 takes only 4.7 seconds.

Alongside this mighty motor, the Jaguar XFR has some advanced chassis upgrades over the standard XF: a faster steering rack gives more responsive handling, and the standard CATS suspension has been ditched for some electronically controlled Bistein shocks which are linked to the new active rear differential as seen in the latest Ferraris, all controlled on board, meaning if you want to take the XFR to the track and produce some 100 yard powerslides then no problem.

The XFR debuts at your local dealer in March with UK prices set at £59,900 but expect a waiting list. We are looking forward to both reading the road test reports from all the motoring press on this one and also taking this beast for a spin ourselves - we will report back as soon as we've had our bum on the beautifully sculpted seat.

Jaguar XF Station Wagon

Jaguar XF Station Wagon / Estate
This has to be one of the best renderings yet of a potential Jaguar XF Station Wagon (or Estate car as we like to call them in England). It is just a photoshop image unfortunately, courtesy of Auto Express - link to their full article at the bottom.

What has sparked this are persistent rumours of a Station wagon version of the XF will be shown at the Frankfurt motorshow in September 2009. Jaguar has always denied this car exists, with demand for the car expected to be mainly limited to Europe, where estate cars are still more popular than the big SUV's, in fact SUV sales have fallen away dramatically in Europe over the last 12 months. however, as sales of SUVs are also slipping in the US, Jaguar may feel the time is right for the XF to strike, competing with the Audi A6, BMW 5 Series and Merc E-Class who all have estate versions in their line up.

The one thing going against this rumour is that Jaguar is launching the new XJ model in July, and the Frankfurt show in September will be its first big public appearance, so Jaguar may not want to steal the new XJ's limelight by introducing other new models at the same time.....READMORE

Jaguar XF Tops UK's biggest Satisfaction Poll

Auto Express Magazine readers have voted the Jaguar XF "Britains Best Car", in the 2009 Driver Power survey. The Auto Express survey questioned driver satisfaction in a host of key areas – including reliability and build quality, ownership and running costs, as well as performance, ride and handling. Questions also focused on a vehicle's practicality, comfort and ease of driving.

The XF scored 91.18% overall - enough for top spot.

Commenting on this, Jaguar MD Mike O'Driscoll said: "Securing top place in the UK motoring community's top driver satisfaction poll is an excellent result. This reflects our continuing commitment to produce a consistent high quality driving and ownership experience for all of our customers."

Another great result in the XF's already bulging trophy cabinet, and that besfor the new 3.0 diesel variants have been in the market for any period of time.

The Jaguar XF has been announced as the Auto Express Driver Power 'Car of the Decade'. Although the Jaguar saloon has only been on the market for the past 3 years, it has proved a resounding success with its drivers, resulting in this award as voted for by members of the British public.

Over a period of 10 years readers of Auto Express have been invited to participate in the Driver Power survey and evaluate the car they own. The detailed survey encompassed many aspects of vehicle ownership - from reliability to dealer performance, to design, handling and ease of use. In that time over 300,000 readers participated with hundreds of individual cars being tested. The Jaguar XF emerged as Number One.

Acting Editor of Auto Express, Graham Hope, presented Dr. Ralf Speth, CEO of Jaguar Land Rover and Andrew Whyman, Chief Programme Engineer, XF, with the Award in front of staff at the Castle Bromwich Factory. Dr. Speth commented: 'We are humbled by Jaguar owners voting in such a way to rate the XF as the number one car in the UK. It's a tremendous achievement for everyone in Jaguar – from the people here at Castle Bromwich who have been building the car since 2008 to the engineers, the designers and the dealers. I am very proud to receive the award on their behalf.'

2012 Jaguar XKR Sporty Car Design

2012 Jaguar XKR Sporty Car Design

The automaker announced Jaguar new model in 2012, this is 2012 Jaguar XKR.The 2012 Jaguar XK Jaguar was the first car completely developed under the auspices of the Director of Design Ian Callum. Dramatic and useful, yet so sensitive, and can only be a Jaguar, the XK is receiving a series of reviews to improve their contemporary, assertive. Jaguar sports cars have a reputation for blending athletic high-performance with effortless cruising comfort. Nothing exemplifies this dual character more clearly than the XK’s 5.0-litre AJ-V8 engine. The 2012 Jaguar XKR exhilarating driving dynamics are the result of the latest generation of Jaguar’s Adaptive Dynamics technology that provides a continuous and seamlessly variable damping strategy to negate the traditional trade-off between ride comfort and handling.
Perfomance of 2012 Jaguar XKR

The two supercharged variants of the 2012 Jaguar XKR also benefit from Jaguar’s Active Differential Control technology. This uses a multiplate clutch to vector torque to the driven wheel with the most grip. Allied to the ABS and stability control, this allows for the ultimate in traction and precision both mid-corner and at its exit. Non-supercharged models use a mechanical differential, which delivers outstanding levels of grip and stability under power. All models benefit from the Dynamic Stability Control system which offers four modes: normal, Winter, TracDSC and DSC Off, allowing the enthusiastic driver to choose the level of intervention dependent on road conditions.

The central seven-inch Touch-screen provides an intuitive interface for the extensive technology that is seamlessly incorporated into the XK, including iPod and USB connectivity and satellite navigation with DVD mapping. The central screen also projects the image from the new reverse parking camera. Please click image to image gallery of 2012 Jaguar XKR.

Jaguar C-X75 Price Concept Range £700,000 – £900,000

Jaguar C-X75 Price Concept Range £700,000 – £900,000

The Jaguar company launch vehicle with hybrid supercar, it is Jaguar C-X75. The concept car’s turbine powertrain will give way to a more traditional hybrid setup, although Jaguar says that its parent company – India’s Tata – has taken a “significant” stake in Bladon Jets to develop micro-turbine technology as a “medium-term” aspiration. In other words, Jaguar is serious about turbine power for a future product.Instead, the production Jaguar C-X75 will use a small-capacity internal combustion engine that will work with four powerful electric motors mounted at each axle, thus providing the necessary all-wheel-drive traction and stability. EV-only range will top out at a reasonable 31 miles, but the real grunt will require the gas engine to kick over. Jaguar says to expect a sub-3 second 0-60 mph sprint before a 200 mph top speed.
Spesification of Jaguar C-X75

The Jaguar C-X75 drive from Zero-to-100 km/h in 3.4 seconds, zero-to-100 mph in 5.5 seconds, top speed of 205 mph, or 330 km/h, zero to top speed in just 15.7 seconds, completes a quarter mile in 10.3 seconds at 251 km/h, max power of 780 horsepower and 1,180 lb-ft of torque, aerodynamic signature rating of .32 (cd)

Jaguar C-X75 energy created by the turbines is then stored in the batteries, and from there meets the road via four independent electric motors. According to Jaguar, using individual motors at each wheel actually has benefits in terms of weight-saving and distribution, packaging and efficiency. Each motor weighs just 110 lbs but produces 195 horsepower (145kW) of power and an pavement-shredding combined total torque output of 1,18 0lb-ft.
Price of Jaguar C-X75

As for availability, Jaguar hasn’t specified a date, but it did suggest that the car will cost in the range of £700,000 – £900,000 ($1.15 to $1.48 million in 2011 U.S. dollars). The automaker is planning to produce just 250 examples. Please click image to image gallery of Jaguar C-X75.

Jaguar XKR Price from £97,000 at 2012

Jaguar XKR Price from £97,000 at 2012

2012 Jaguar XKR.The Jaguar automaker has released new vechicle for XKR.Jaguar claims the more assertive styling (which encompasses changes made across the XK range) is dictated as much by function as form. The front and rear aerodynamic enhancements are apparently required to maintain contact with the ground at the XKR-S’s higher top speed: an electronically governed 186mph.

Top speed of new Jaguar XKR is 186mph from 0-62mph : 4.4se, fuel Economy: 23.0mpg (combined); CO2: 292g/km; Kerb weight: 1753kg; Engine: V8, 5000cc, supercharged. The new Jaguar XKR use Power: 542bhp at 6500rpm, torque: 502bhp at 3500rpm and with 6 speed automatic.

Changes to the chassis mirror those previewed on the limited-run Edition 75 and amount to 28 per cent stiffer spring rates over the standard XKR’s, a new aluminium steering knuckle, reprogrammed damper and differential controls, wider tyres and lighter wheels.
New Jaguar XKR (Perfomance)

The standard Jaguar XKR is hardly lacking propulsion, but the S is noticeably quicker again and freer revving at the top end. Partly this is because, subjectively, the S feels like it has a more aggressive throttle map – despite Jaguar’s claims to have softened it (across all XKs) for the 2012 model year. Either way, this is a car where you find yourself backing out of the throttle halfway down a straight in an effort to keep speeds broadly moral.

Amusing though the XKR-S is, there’s a nagging feeling that it is perhaps trying to be something it is not. For the drama and sheer performance, the XKR-S justifies its near-six-figure price but, in the final reckoning, it remains a large, relatively heavy GT. And as GT cars go, it’s difficult to argue against the Jaguar XKR, especially at a saving of £20k. Some even say the sweet spot in the XK range is the standard 5.0-litre model.
